AHPI Exec. Dir. Celia C. Yangco joined the “Autism Spectrum Disorder & Integrated Play Groups Seminar”
__________The Autism Hearts Philippines Inc. (AHPI) participated in a seminar on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Integrated Play Groups (IPG) Seminar with Dr. Pamela Wolfberg, the designer and author of the IPG model as the main resource person at the Ateneo de Manila University last March 19, 2013, sponsored by Ateneo Bulatao Center for Psychological Services and Occupational Therapy Association of the Philippines.
__________The seminar was attended by doctors, psychologists, occupational therapists, teachers, social workersd, health related professionals, other practitioners and parents. Dr. Wolfberg introduced the use of Integrated Play Groups (IPG) model and how it can help manage persons with ASD. The model is designed to promote socialization, communication, play and imagination in children with autism while building relationships with typical peers and siblings through mutually engaging experiences in natural settings.

Unanimous Passage of a New UN Resolution on Autism
On December 12, 2012, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) unanimously passed a new resolution calling on governments to take urgent action to improve access to long-term healthcare, education, training and intervention programs for persons with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), developmental disorders (DD), and associated disabilities, at local, national and international levels. The resolution was drafted and tabled by the Mission of Bangladesh with the support of Autism Speaks, and more than 70 co-sponsors including the PHILIPPINES.

DSWD Region 4-A and Autism Hearts Phil. Inc conduct Forum on Understanding and Managing Persons with Autism (PWAs)
__________The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 4-A in collaboration with Autism Hearts Philippines Inc. (AHPI), recently conducted a forum on understanding and managing persons with autism (PWA’s) at Hotel Pontefino, Batangas City.
__________The forum was participated by 120 municipal/city social welfare officer, municipal/city health officer, day care workers, parent leaders of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino project (4Ps), NGO’s, PWD leaders, DSWD and AHPI staff.
__________The forum aimed to determined the number of persons with disability in CALABARZON region; understand Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), its epidemiology, trends na and challenges; determine different programs, services and interventions in helping person with ASD; and formulate plans what would help in the advocacies in increasing community awareness in ASD. These objective were achieved, together with an appreciation of the networks in the province which can be utilize for managing ASD cases.

DSWD – AHPI Partnership In Music and Art Therapy Program for Autism
__________The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Social Technology Bureau in collaboration with the Autism Hearts Phil. Inc. (AHPI), local office of Autism Hearts Foundation (AHF) based in San Francisco USA recently conducted a capability training cum writeshop on Music and Art Therapy (MAT) Program for Person with Autism (PWAs) at Hotel Stotsenberg in Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga.
__________The training cum writeshop was done in the same venue back to back with the capability building. Participated by (40) of social workers, doctors, psychologist, houseparents, social welfare development officer and program officer of both DSWD and AHPI. The Training aimed to integrate music and art therapy into the case management of PWAs and other PWDs in the different residential facilities managed by DSWD.

Globe Telecom Donates IT Equipment to AHPI
__________Globe Telecom Company recently donated Information Technology (IT) equipment composed of computers, printers and broadband to the Autism Hearts Phil. Inc. (AHPI) the Philippine office of the US based Autism Hearts Foundation, for use in the advocacy efforts and other programs for autism awareness detection and treatment in the country.
__________AHPI’s mission is to help persons with autism attain self-reliance and achieve their optimum potentials depending on their capabilities. Autism is a neuro-developmental disability that affects the functioning of the brain, and characterized by the impairments in social interaction, problems with verbal and non-verbal communication and restricted, repetitive behavior, interest and activities. With the right diagnosis, intervention and treatment, many with person with autism have achieved fame in art, music, sport and other endeavours.
